This is my first coffee chat, and it’s something I’m really excited about! This is something I’ve wanted to do, if not for others to read then for my own sake. I wanted an opportunity to sit down with some amazing women in my life and talk to them about life! Every post will include a picture of each woman and their current favorite coffee mug. Join me for some laughs, good advice and virtual coffee time!
Oh Kenzie, where do I even begin?! Kenzie is one of those women who automatically becomes a great friend. She is an incredible encourager and makes every single person she comes in contact with feel valuable and loved. I have been wanting to sit and ask her questions about her story, and what she’s been learning. This is her favorite mug because it is the perfect sized mug, and it’s her happy color!
Here’s my coffee chat with Kenzie, so grab your mug and enjoy!
NOTE: Kenzie and I did this interview over Facetime, and so most of the answers are my summary of what she said, with some real-life quotes! What you all missed is her sweet Jude making the best toddler noises in the background.
Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do!
“Mackenzie Gantz, born and raised Ohio girl. Wife, mother, and (drumroll please) founder of She Weekly! A weekly newsletter that shares the 5 things She is loving- right now.
They met in their church youth group, and went on a trip together to the Dominican Republic the summer before their sophomore year. At this point, Kenzie was sixteen and Justin was fifteen. Kenzie remembers seeing him preparing for a drama for the trip, and being immediately attracted to his goofy and funny side.
From Justin’s point of view, he was interested and “definitely had a crush” on her. She thought he was cool and made a good friend. They went to a dance at his school together during their sophomore year.
Kenzie fully expresses that their “relationship was a testimony of having really great parents.” She says this because she found that both sets of parents helped them to stay grounded in their faith and understand that this was a high school relationship and not focus too much on the future of it. It was a time to have good friendships, and not be too serious about relationships
How long did you date and how long were you engaged?
After high school, Justin went to Kent State University and Kenzie went to Malone University for their first year of college. Pretty quickly into freshman year, they both knew that they wanted to marry each other. Kenzie explained to me how valuable Justin became to her, and although not a very emotional person, she found herself in tears every time that he had to leave.
She transferred to Kent State University for their second year of college and they continued dating, which resulted in marriage during their senior year!
To sum it up, Kenzie said: We were high school sweethearts with smart parents, and both with strong faith.
What is the biggest thing you have learned about marriage?
“If you don’t love God first, and your spouse doesn’t love God first, and that is not the anchor of the marriage, then GOOD LUCK. Marriage without God would be so depressing, scary and meaningless. If you truly do believe in God, then make ding-dang-dong (I loved this) sure that your partner is the same. If you don’t have God in your marriage, then buckle up!”
What is the biggest thing you have learned through marriage?
“I am a sinner, saved by grace alone. I don’t deserve anything that I’m given. Marriage and being a mom is such a blessing–and I owe it all back to God.”
You are a fellow capsule-wardrober! What are your must-have pieces this spring?
“You have to get it!” she told me, and explained to me this beautiful gray blazer she bought on amazon. “It is the perfect marriage between loose and structured.” Check that beauty out here! She also said that you need a good, comfy B&W striped shirt. (I have one posted in my post about my Spring capsule, and it can be found here!)
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“It’s not from a person, but it is something that God has laid on my heart,” Kenzie told me. This was something Kenzie told me specifically, as my fiance and I prepare for our wedding day. She said that when I’m walking down the aisle, to view what I’m walking towards (my Bradley David) as a gift from God. On top of that, to turn as a couple to the cross. This symbolically represents us putting our relationship in Christ, and making a pledge together to Christ. “Make sure the day of your wedding, the main thing is committing your marriage to God.”
What is your current favorite beauty product?
Urban Decay lipstick, which can be found here. Kenzie said this stuff is long lasting and doesn’t smudge easily. The perfect must-have lipstick for a busy mom! Kenzie also told me about her favorite powder, which is by Maybeline. She wears a 220 and said that it gives the perfect finishing touch on makeup, and there are also so many color options that everyone can find something that matches perfectly. Find that here!
What are you currently reading?
“I’ve always read this a little each day since college, and that is My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers.” Kenzie also told me about She is Mine: A War Orphan’s Incredible Journey of Survival by Stephanie Fast, and raved of it’s excellence! Kenzie got to meet Stephanie and was given a copy of the book, and has been so deeply touched by it. She said that it is life-changing in the sense that you cannot put it down and forget what you read.
Here is the premise: Her father was an American serviceman, her mother a young Korean woman confused by the ravages of war. Abandoned at age four, nameless, homeless, and utterly alone, this child roamed the bleak, war-ravaged countryside of South Korea for three years and was finally left for dead. But The Creator had other plans and revealed them through the words, “She Is Mine.”
What are you currently watching?
Kenzie asked if I knew what she was watching, which of course is The Bachelor. I’m not sure if I’m thankful yet or not, but she is the one responsible for getting me hooked! She also is watching Married at First Sight, which is “eHarmony but the stakes are higher” as couples marry each other the first time that they meet. The relationships that the couples decide to continue, seem to be successful! She is also a huge fan of Downton Abbey, and said the finale was super emotional!
There you have it, folks! The beautiful Kenzie is such a treat to get to talk to and laugh with. I hope you enjoyed learning about her just as much as I did!
Have a blessed day,
